In this workshop, we discuss the real purpose and value of a case report in the modern age and the advantages of online bedside learning in modern medical education. Who should be writing them? What should we write about? Who will read them? Of what value are they?

Fully interactive from the outset, including a brief introduction about what is known about Global Health teaching across the world (asking the audience to contribute their experience and the challenges they face), followed by an introduction to the free Global Health course on the BMJ Case Reports website and Global Health case report tool.

The module is fully interactive and participants are invited to voice their opinions and concerns. There will be opportunities to explore ideas for case reports that participants plan to write.

Group activities include working through particular challenges:
1. How to set up and run the course: identifying patients, finding and working with partners in the community including local families, community centres and NGO’s
2. Introducing students to and supporting them in learning environments out of their comfort zones: cultural immersion and overcoming language and social barriers
3. Identifying, researching and analysing Global Health problems with students
4. Developing faculty who can run the course: overcoming challenges that they are likely to face
